The month of November is a month of giving thanks and sharing, and in this spirit the Sandra Lee Gallery proudly presents “Collectors Collections,” an unusual new exhibition highlighting notable artworks from the collections of our most cherished collectors. Not only will we be showcasing selected samples plucked directly from the walls and private museums of our most esteemed patrons, some of these works will actually be for sale, furthering the notion that art collecting, at its heart, is about fraternity and open-ended collaboration.
As the exhibition aptly demonstrates, some collectors purchase art for their own aesthetic reasons, while others approach the process of art buying as an investment; carefully deliberating and predicting future value based on current return. What makes both facets of collecting equally exciting and legitimate is that they allow collectors the opportunity to separate out specific works of art from an often cluttered landscape and assemble them in such a way as to increase our understanding of a given artwork in a much more meaningful way. Whether collecting from a place of recreation or pragmatism, the whole becomes greater than the sum of its parts.
Selected works will be on display starting November 3 through November 22, 2014.
